CoQ10 for Brain Energy: What Synaptril's Ubiquinone Line Holds
CoQ10 for brain energy is an idea drawn from cell biology, not a tested result. Cells use CoQ10 to make energy, yet brain-disease trials found no cognitive benefit. Synaptril lists it as ubiquinone, the last of six blend lines, so one capsule likely holds under about 35 mg. Typical supplements use 30-100 mg, and under 5% of a dose is absorbed.

What it is01
What is coenzyme Q10 in Synaptril?
Coenzyme Q10 is a fat-soluble compound your cells use to turn food into usable energy. Synaptril lists it as "Coenzyme Q 10 (as Ubiquinone)", the sixth and lightest line in its 575 mg blend.
Your body makes CoQ10 on its own, and most of it works inside mitochondria, the energy units of each cell. Supplements add to that supply.
The label prints no amount. As the last line, CoQ10 weighs the same as turmeric or less.
The front-label link
The bottle says "Boosts Mental Energy". CoQ10 is the line most tied to the word energy. No trial of the capsule backs that claim.

Evidence02
Does CoQ10 for brain energy have research behind it?
CoQ10 for brain energy has a sound theory but no trial support for thinking or memory. Studies in brain diseases tested high doses and found no cognitive gain (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10).
A major NIH-funded trial found that CoQ10, even at high doses, did not help early Parkinson's disease (NCCIH, Coenzyme Q10). Two Huntington's trials showed no benefit on thinking or daily function (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10).
A trial that paired CoQ with vitamins C and E and alpha-lipoic acid did not protect against Alzheimer's disease (MSKCC, Alpha-Lipoic Acid). None of these tested healthy adults, and none tested Synaptril.
| Condition | What was tested | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Early Parkinson's | CoQ10, up to high doses (NCCIH, Coenzyme Q10) | No improvement |
| Huntington's | Two trials of CoQ10 (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10) | No cognitive or functional benefit |
| Alzheimer's | CoQ, vitamins C and E, alpha-lipoic acid (MSKCC, Alpha-Lipoic Acid) | No protection shown |
| Synaptril | Not tested | No data |
Forms03
What is the difference between ubiquinone and ubiquinol?
Ubiquinone and ubiquinol are two forms of the same CoQ10 molecule. In chemical terms, ubiquinone is the oxidized one and ubiquinol the reduced one. The body shifts CoQ10 back and forth between them as it works.
Synaptril uses ubiquinone. Ubiquinol is sold as its own product, and the Synaptril label does not mention it.
Our cited sources do not compare the two forms head to head, so we make no claim that either works better.
Blend math04
How much CoQ10 is in one Synaptril capsule?
One Synaptril capsule likely holds under about 35 mg of CoQ10, and possibly much less. The label prints no amount, so this is our estimate.
As line 6, CoQ10 can weigh at most 575 ÷ 6, about 96 mg. The magnesium glycinate then takes about 400-570 mg, leaving at most about 175 mg for five lines. Line 6 gets at most 175 ÷ 5, about 35 mg.
That 35 mg only happens if all five lines weigh the same and the glycinate is the 20% grade. It would touch the low end of typical 30-100 mg supplements (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). Any other split puts CoQ10 lower.
| Assumption | Left for five lines | CoQ10 at most |
|---|---|---|
| Label order only | Not limited | About 96 mg |
| Glycinate at 20% magnesium (about 400 mg) | About 175 mg | About 35 mg |
| Glycinate at 14% magnesium (about 570 mg) | About 5 mg | About 1 mg |
Absorption05
How well does the body absorb CoQ10?
The body absorbs CoQ10 poorly: less than 5% of an oral dose is thought to reach the blood (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). It dissolves in fat, so it is best absorbed with a meal that has some fat.
The Synaptril label sets no food rule. If you want to give the CoQ10 its best chance, taking the capsule with a meal is a reasonable habit. It does not change the dose problem above.

See packsWarfarin06
Is CoQ10 safe with warfarin?
CoQ10 can weaken warfarin, so anyone on warfarin should ask their anticoagulation clinic before starting (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). Its structure resembles vitamin K, which works against warfarin (MSKCC, Coenzyme Q10).
The Linus Pauling Institute advises frequent INR checks, especially in the first two weeks. Synaptril's turmeric line may add a separate bleeding concern.
NCCIH adds a possible interaction with insulin, and MSKCC says CoQ10 may weaken chemotherapy and radiation (NCCIH, Coenzyme Q10) (MSKCC, Coenzyme Q10).
Keep taking prescribed medicine on its usual schedule. Show your doctor or pharmacist the full Synaptril label, and read brain supplements and medications.
Statins07
Do statins lower CoQ10?
Yes, statins may lower the body's CoQ10 levels (MSKCC, Coenzyme Q10). That fact is why some people on statins add a CoQ10 supplement.
Lower levels have not translated into a proven fix. NCCIH says evidence does not support CoQ10 for statin-related muscle pain (NCCIH, Coenzyme Q10), and MSKCC calls the data inconclusive (MSKCC, Coenzyme Q10).
If statin muscle aches bother you, tell the prescriber. A tiny CoQ10 share in a brain blend is not a plan for that problem.
Side effects08
What side effects does CoQ10 have?
CoQ10 side effects are usually mild: trouble sleeping, nausea, diarrhea or less appetite (MSKCC, Coenzyme Q10). Stomach symptoms are more common at 200 mg a day or more (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10).
Studies support safety up to 1,200 mg a day (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). Synaptril's likely share sits far below either level. The profile below pairs the label line with the research.
| Name on the label | Coenzyme Q 10 (as Ubiquinone) |
|---|---|
| What it is | Ubiquinone, a compound cells use to make energy |
| Place on the label | Line 6 of 6 in the 575 mg proprietary blend |
| Amount per capsule | Not printed; line 6 of 6 in the 575 mg blend. Label order caps it at 96 mg; after the magnesium glycinate it is likely no more than about 35 mg (estimate) |
| Amount used in research | Typical supplements 30-100 mg a day |
| Strength of evidence | No cognitive benefit in brain-disease trials |
| Marketed or traditional use | Cell energy |
| Main caution | May weaken warfarin; mild sleep trouble or stomach upset. |
Where it sits09
Is CoQ10 a reason to choose Synaptril?
CoQ10 is not a strong reason to choose Synaptril. It is the smallest line, its likely amount sits at or below the low end of typical supplements, and brain trials found no benefit.
See how it compares with the other five on the Synaptril ingredients page, or go back to the first line, magnesium glycinate.
FAQ10
CoQ10 questions people ask
What CoQ10 dose do supplements usually contain?
Most CoQ10 supplements give 30 to 100 mg a day, according to the Linus Pauling Institute (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). Synaptril's CoQ10 line is likely under about 35 mg per capsule by our label math, and it could be far less if the other blend lines are heavier.
How much CoQ10 is too much?
Research supports safety up to 1,200 mg a day (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). Stomach upset becomes more common from about 200 mg a day. A Synaptril capsule likely holds a small fraction of either amount, but adding a separate CoQ10 product is worth a word with your pharmacist.
Should I take CoQ10 if I am on a statin?
Ask the doctor who prescribed the statin. Statins may lower CoQ10 levels (MSKCC, Coenzyme Q10), but NCCIH says the evidence does not support CoQ10 for statin muscle pain (NCCIH, Coenzyme Q10). A small CoQ10 share in a brain blend does not replace that conversation.
Should I take CoQ10 with food?
Yes, if absorption matters to you. CoQ10 dissolves in fat, and the Linus Pauling Institute says it is best absorbed with a meal that contains fat (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). The Synaptril label sets no food rule, so a meal is optional but sensible.
Does ubiquinol absorb better than the ubiquinone in Synaptril?
Our sources do not settle it. They report that under 5% of an oral CoQ10 dose reaches the blood (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10), without comparing the two forms directly. Either way, no trial shows a thinking benefit at Synaptril's likely dose.
Can CoQ10 make warfarin less effective?
Yes, in some reported cases CoQ10 has reduced warfarin's effect (Linus Pauling Institute, Coenzyme Q10). Its structure is close to vitamin K (MSKCC, Coenzyme Q10). Anyone on warfarin should ask their anticoagulation clinic before starting Synaptril and expect closer INR checks in the first two weeks.
