What does dietary supplement mean for Synaptril?

Being a supplement is not a quality grade. A bottle of a plain vitamin and a bottle of a long blend are in the same class. It says what type of product it is, not that it works or that it was tested.
The class started with a 1994 law. It lets companies sell supplements without proof of benefit, as long as the label makes only allowed claims. Safety rests with the maker, and the FDA steps in if a product proves unsafe.

What can a dietary supplement claim?
A supplement can make structure and function claims, which describe a normal role in the body, but not claims to treat or prevent disease (21 CFR 101.93, structure/function claims). The wording must be backed by the maker, and the label must carry the FDA statement. The FTC also expects health claims to rest on solid proof (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).
